Jack established the ACT Athletics Coaches Association in 1964.
ReplyDeleteJack founded the ACT Cross Country Club in 1962.
I'm tipping a full story to appear in the next Vetrunner. :-)
Interesting how myths develop... Jack didn't actually found the ACTCCC, but he did organise all Canberra winter running for ten years or more, leading up to when the ACTCCC was formed in the early 1970s (building on Jack's legacy). I arrived in Canberra in January 1969 and there was no Cross Country Club, but there was weekly Saturday afternoon winter competition, usually at the Corkwood plantation (still there, adjacent to Glenloch interchange), which competition Jack organised and ran in. Jack was the face of Canberra distance running in those days, prior to the ACTCCC being formed, and later the Vets. He also had literally the loudest voice in the ACT, so made all the anouncements....
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the coaches association, but I would advise getting the history from a reliable source...
